Goudeau guided Spartans for 7 years

After seven years at the helm, Brad Goudeau has stepped down as the Davis High varsity football coach.

Goudeau, also the school's athletic director, cited family reasons and the wish to concentrate on his other job responsibilities for the change.

"I've got four kids and all their sports," Goudeau said. "I've been doing this for seven years. It's time to catch my breath.

"It's time for some new blood."

Goudeau's teams compiled a 36-37-1 record, with four Sac-Joaquin Section playoff appearances and one Modesto Metro Conference title, shared with Beyer in 2007.

Goudeau will remain the school's athletic director, and a physical education teacher. He's also going to keep the off-season program going until a new coach is hired.

"I met with the kids (Tuesday)," Goudeau said. "I told them everything is going to continue until the next coach is hired."

The job is expected to open soon, according to Goudeau. According to Modesto City Schools rules, the job will be opened within Davis High, then Modesto City Schools, before the public.
